The Purchasing Department is the central buying agency for all departments. The purchasing agent processes all bid information for equipment and supplies used by the city. It is the responsibility of the Purchasing Agent to get the best price, but sometimes more importantly, to get the best quality materials, equipment and services.
Department heads may make purchases not to exceed $500.00 in any given day without having to obtain written bids or quotes, or up to $1,500.00 in exigent circumstances. Purchases from $500.00-$5,000.00 are required to have three quotes. Purchases over $5,000.00 are required to be bid. The bid will be advertised in the local paper and ten days later opened and read.
