The Department of Public Safety is under the leadership of Chief Eddie Phillips the Director of Public Safety. Director Phillips serves as Fire Chief, Police Chief, and Administrator over Codes Enforcement, Animal Control, Traffic Control and Fleet Services/City Garage. Chief Phillips is active in and serves on committees of both the Tennessee Fire Chiefs and Tennessee Police Chiefs Associations. He is also a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Chiefs of Police
and represents Tennessee for the Southeastern Fire Chiefs board. He serves as a member of Fire Science Advisory Committee for Chattanooga State Technical Community College and Serves on the Technical Committee on Fire Prevention for the National Fire Protection Association. Chief Phillips is a state and national certified fire officer, state certified inspector, has attended the Southern Police Institute and is a member of the FBI- Law Enforcement Executive Development Association. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Hamilton County 911 District. He is a 38-year veteran of emergency services.
